At GJK, we work hard to promote a sense of community among our families and staff. We have an open-door policy and offer many ways for parents to be active participants in the classroom and partners in the education of their children, including:
Teacher communication: Two-way communication with a child’s teacher is key for his/her success, and our teachers value the opportunity to share with their parents. We promote an open dialogue all year long through bi-annual parent-teacher conferences, phone call updates, emails, and frequent classroom and school newsletters.
Classroom participation: We offer many ways for parents to be active participants in the classroom. Opportunities include being a mystery reader, sharing a special talent or family tradition, leading a fun activity, or anything else of interest.
GJK Board of Directors: Our parent-run board is a great way to meet others and works hand-in-hand with our director and assistant director to help ensure our financial stability, oversee school policies, coordinate fundraising efforts, and create educational and social events. If you’re interested in becoming involved, please email the director, Laura Vocke.
Family fun events: Events including the back-to-school picnic, Science Day and our annual Fun Fair provide a chance for families to connect with others and enjoy time together.
Parent education sessions: Informal coffee talks are offered throughout the year on topics relevant to preschool parents. Past seminars have included topics such as discipline and sibling rivalry.
Family Action Network (FAN): FAN is a non-profit community organization that offers programming connecting parents, educators, and professionals. Our families are invited and encouraged to attend free FAN events, which feature well-regarded speakers on many hot topics related to children and families. Learn more about upcoming FAN events.
