Welcome to GJK

NAEYC AccditedGlencoe Junior Kindergarten and Nursery School (GJK) is pleased to be accredited by the National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC). The logo you see above identifies GJK as one of the 4% of preschools nationwide that meet the high standards set by NAEYC.

Glencoe Junior Kindergarten and Nursery School has been offering early childhood education since 1942. GJK was started by a community of parents and was one of the first preschools on the North Shore. A unique aspect of the school is that it is run by a dedicated board of parent volunteers. The curriculum and programming is developed and administered by the school’s director.

GJK’s programs are thoughtfully planned to encourage children to develop their curiosity and enhance their self-esteem through play. Classes focus on developing children’s social, cognitive, emotional, and physical development, while encouraging self-help and independence.

Our teachers are our cornerstone. Teachers at GJK are chosen for their educational background, experience, and also for their warmth, creativity, enthusiasm and love for children.

Our low teacher-to-child ratio allows us to work interactively with children to meet individual goals and needs. Class placement for children enrolled in the GJK program is determined by teacher and director observation. The teachers work diligently to ensure that each child is placed in a classroom that will be best suited for that child.

Glencoe Junior Kindergarten is a wonderful place for children and parents to make new friends. Many of our families tell us that their lifelong friendships began at GJK. We welcome parents into our classrooms to share their time and talent. Our volunteer Board of Directors is the backbone of our school, assisting in fundraising and policy creation. The GJK Host Family program provides new families with an opportunity to connect with a family who will assist with the transition to our program. The strength of our school comes from the strength of each individual family. The GJK family is filled with parents, children and teachers joining together to make our school great!
