At GJK, we value and promote a sense of community between the school and our families.  We offer many ways to become an active participant and partner in the education of your child at school and in the classroom.  GJK has an open door policy and invites families to participate in classes and on our Parent Board of Directors. 

There are many ways we reach out to our families:

• Communication with Teachers is key for your child’s success.  Our teachers value the opportunity to share with you and for you to share with them.  To this end, we have Parent-Teacher conferences and promote an open dialogue all year. through one-to-one communication, email, newsletters, and phone call updates.
• Parent Participation in classroom activities is encouraged, depending on parent availability and interest.  There are fun classroom experiences to share such as Mystery Reader, cooking, and sharing a special talent or family tradition.
• Family Fun Events happen throughout the year. Events like Great Pumpkin Day, Science Day, Earth Day, and GJK’s Annual Fun Fair provide a great time for the whole family and a chance for families to meet across the school.
• Parent Coffees and Education are offered throughout the year.  Informal coffees are a great chance for parents to meet.  Previous education seminars covered topics such as discipline and sibling rivalry.
• Newsletters are e-mailed home on a regular basis from both the classroom and the school.  The newsletters will include information regarding school and classroom activities that are important to you and your child.
• The Parent Board of Directors is a great asset and is a fun way to be involved in our school.  The board helps to coordinate fundraising efforts, creates educational and social events, oversees school policies, and ensures financial stability.
